Having a cell phone in Delhi is helpful and is highly recommended. Cell phone service in India is mostly on pre-paid basis. There are thousands of locations where you can buy cell phone service. You can add minutes (recharge) from any cell phone service outlet. Other services like Internet, voicemail are available on demand. If your battery is running low you can find cell phone charging stations in many food outlets, malls, hotels etc. all throughout the Delhi area.
 
Points to Remember:
  • You can bring your cell phone to India (tri-band only) and just buy a Prepaid SIM card to start your service. Service gets activated within 15 min to 2 hours.
OR
  • You can buy a simple handset for about $30, buy a SIM card for $3, and buy an international calling card.
